In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many in Buncombe County are facing long and challenging roads to recovery. The Buncombe County Long-Term Recovery Group (BCLTRG) is dedicated to ensuring that individuals and families receive the support they need to rebuild and thrive.
The BCLTRG is a coalition of local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and volunteers united to coordinate county-wide disaster recovery through intentional collaboration. Our efforts are guided by a commitment to equity and community resilience, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most.
The mission of the Buncombe County LTRG is to coordinate county-wide disaster recovery through intentional collaboration. With this collaborative approach,* we advocate for our most vulnerable neighbors by adhering to our community commitment statement and simplifying access to available resources for individuals and families.
*Our collaborative approach includes all formal, informal, and emerging entities involved in providing disaster relief & recovery services, and also cultivates relationships with community-led efforts to develop hyperlocal networks of mutual aid.
COMMUNITY COMMITMENT STATEMENT
The Buncombe County LTRG is a coalition of local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and volunteers united to coordinate county-wide disaster recovery through intentional collaboration. Our efforts are guided by a commitment to community resilience, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most. The Buncombe County LTRG works to ensure that everyone has what they need in disaster recovery based on their unique circumstances. We recognize historic inequities* as well as emerging vulnerabilities that result from disasters. We aim to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate resources to reduce disparities and support resilience among communities disproportionately impacted by disaster.
*Historically excluded communities include…Black, Latino, and Indigenous and Native American persons, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other persons of color; members of religious minorities; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI+) persons; persons with disabilities; persons who live in rural areas; and persons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality.”
